Functionality of Cooling Tower Nozzles
Nozzles are integral to the operation and efficiency of cooling towers. The function of cooling tower nozzles is to transfer hot water from the process to the heat transfer fill. In crossflow cooling towers, water is lifted to the distribution basins and then cascaded down over the fill via nozzles on the hot water basin floor. An ABS or FRP pipe in the center of the tower connects them to the water pipe.
The exit is set up to spray water in a steady and consistent pattern, while the input is connected to a water pipe. Water continues fall down, until the cooling tower is full. The hot water turns into the nozzles and then flows out from the nozzle bottom when water is pumped through them at a certain pressure. Each cooling tower spray nozzle needs both an input and an exit to work properly.
